Valentine's Day...Better late than never, right?

I got all corny and dressed Lucas and Poppy in (semi) matching outfits for Valentine's Day this year.  Poppy wore a dress that was mine when I was little, although it fit her more like a shirt and I also had to put pants on her.  We went on a midday adventure to Walmart to visit the fish (as it was raining too hard to take a walk) and finished the night with pizza.  Fancy!

Poppy.  Smiling is like her job.  She does is all the time!

Lucas.  My silly boy.  This is the new "cheese face" around here.

Both of my little darlings.  Lucas was reading to Poppy.  She was very interested in the book...

...until she saw the camera!  Then it was game on.  Strike a pose, Girlfriend!

Kisses for Sister.  What a good brother Lucas is!

The difference a year makes.

A year ago, Poppy was rocking one sweet mullet.  Fo' real.

Now she has enough hair to make a tiny little whale spout on top of her head.  And her hair is considerably lighter than it used to be.

On February 10, 2010 Lucas was 21 months old.

Today he is 33 months old.  And he looks like a little boy now!  Where did my chubby-faced baby go?

A year ago, Poppy still rode in the car seat when we went out on our walk.

Now she sits next to Lucas and they get to talk, hold hands, wave to cars and airplanes, and share their snacks together.

1,000

Lucas is 1,000 days old today, February 04, 2011.  Quadruple digits!  He is a (mostly) happy boy and is always excited to learn new things.  His new favorite phrase is "Hey, Shorty!"  Yeah, we're going to try and not listen to as much Nelly from now on.  He likes Thomas the Tank Engine and Sesame Street and just got his first set of Matchbox Cars as a reward for maintaining his composure at an appointment with the doctor.  His best friend is Poppy.  He calls her "Poppy," "Sister," or sometimes even "Brother."  He recently got the Almond Joy flavored coffee creamer out of the fridge and decided to taste it.  When he didn't like it he said "The creamer is terrible, Mama!"  He talks about Daddy a lot and remembers dropping him off at work so he could "go get on the boat."  That was three months (and two days) ago.  He loves to help put dirty laundry in the washing machine and then watch the washer fill with bubbles.  He does a hilarious impression of a bunny, but won't ever do it long enough for me to take a picture.

I can't believe I've had my favorite boy for 1,000 days already!

Would you like to know how many days old you are?  I use THIS website to figure it out.  It is much easier than poring over old calendars!

Swinging!

Today, on our third day in a row of sun, we took a walk through the neighborhood and then stopped at one of the playgrounds for some fun.  Poppy got to go on the swing for the first time on Sunday and she really liked it.  Today, she and Lucas both had tons of fun swinging "as high as an airplane" (as Lucas put it) in the sunshine!

After initially refusing to go to the swings, Lucas finally agreed to get in one so that Poppy could get out of the stroller and have some fun in the sun.

Poppy had so much fun!

Lucas took his hat off and threw it to the ground so he could feel the wind in his hair.  And, yes, his face is dirty.  He ate his snack of chocolate Goldfish crackers while we walked through the 'hood and he wasn't exactly neat about it!

Poppy had a huge smile on her face the whole time and Lucas was really interested watching his shadow move as the swing moved.

There's my happy girl!  Poppy did really well holding on for a while, but eventually she started to let go.  The little daredevil is FEARLESS!

And there's my happy boy!  He sure looks big in this picture!

Yeah, its safe to say these two were smiling the whole time!

This is a phone picture, so it isn't the best, but you can see that while Lucas held onto the swing, Poppy acted like she was on a roller coaster and went hands free.

The forecast calls for more sun this week (a welcome change after two weeks of dreary fog, clouds, and rain), so we will definitely be hitting the swings again.  It was not easy trying to get Lucas to walk home after we had played for close to an hour.  I'm sure it looked like I was kidnapping him, he was very vocal about wanting to stay!
